Exciting news, we did a thing! As featured in Alaska Business magazine, Gondwana Ecotours is proud to announce the purchase of Alaska’s 8,600-square-foot Grizzly Lodge. Located just outside of the city of Fairbanks the lodge has long been a home base for our Northern Lights Adventure. It’s the ideal location for seeing the Northern Lights, and it’s comfortable rooms and expansive grounds are perfect for winter activities such as hiking, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
Our partners in this venture are none other than our friends and Northern Lights Adventure guides, Fred and Janet Vreeman! Fred is an environmental engineer/scientist, and Janet is an accomplished researcher, artist, and photographer. Their collective knowledge and experience give them insight into life in Alaska and a deep understanding of this state’s unique ecology. We’re looking forward to building an even better lodge with them and hosting many more tours in the years to come!
About Alaska’s Grizzly Lodge
Alaska’s Grizzly Lodge has a beautiful European design with 14 individual rooms and a common area for guests to mingle. It’s the perfect blend of rustic charm and modern comfort. You can curl up in front of a cozy electric fireplace at night and wake up to a home-cooked breakfast in the morning. Add in high-speed internet and cable TV and you have all of the amenities that you get with other hotels. What those hotels lack, however, are Aurora Borealis viewing decks outside of each room. Imagine having a front-row seat for the most amazing light show on Earth only a few short steps away from the warmth and comfort of your own room!
During the day, you’ll also have the opportunity to explore the boreal forests that surround the lodge by hiking, snowshoeing, or cross-country skiing. We have equipment to rent, including winter gear and cameras, so you don’t have to worry if you forgot something at home. Grizzly Lodge is not just a place to sleep for the night—it’s a destination in and of itself!
