Travel More in 2017
In the new year, many people assign “travel more” as their new year’s resolution. Whether this means a domestic or international trip, visiting Alaska covers many cultural and natural delights that will impress even the most seasoned travelers. The Northern Lights Adventure by Gondwana Ecotours will kick start this new year’s resolution in more ways than one. In fact, it’s so exciting that the Los Angeles Times recommended our trip to their readers!
Visit Fairbanks, Alaska
Los Angeles Times writer Rosemary McClure describes the northern lights as “captivating,” and this is especially true in Fairbanks, Alaska. The lights, ““…are particularly easy to spot in Fairbanks because of its proximity to the North Pole.” The night sky in Fairbanks is frequently clear, making it easier to spot the light show. In fact, if you stay a minimum of three nights and are actively out during the evening hours, your chances of seeing the aurora are more than 90%; and Gondwana’s trip lasts for 6! Situated under the magnetic north pole, this region features some of the best views of the aurora in the world.
Stay Fit while Traveling
What’s the usual new year’s resolution? Exercise more! Thankfully, this ecotour offers plenty of opportunities to stay fit while traveling. Instead of lounging poolside, the Northern Lights Adventure encourages guests to participate in activities that engage all of the senses. Though you may not be in a gym, curling lessons, dog sledding, snowshoeing and hiking with reindeer require guests to stay active in different ways. But don’t think we forgot about relaxing! Unwinding with “a chance to soak in the geothermal Chena Hot Springs” is just what the doctor ordered at the end of a long day. The fresh Alaskan air combined with outdoor adventures helps keep the mind, body and senses engaged.
Education Through Travel
One of our favorite things about travel is getting to explore and learn about new places and cultures. Alaska is one of the most culturally and naturally unique regions in the United States, and the Northern LIghts Adventure offers an introduction to this special place. Throughout the trip, a Gondwana guide will be present to explain the history behind each of the activities. An expert Alaskan Aurora Guide will teach guests about the science behind the northern lights, and how to snap that perfect photo. Providing education through travel is a big part of this ecotour, and our mission.
Sustainable Travel
As an ecotourism company, we strive to work with local businesses that support our primary goal of sustainable travel. We are even certified by AGA: Adventure Green Alaska, meaning that our trip focuses on eco-friendly experiences. By promoting sustainable travel to Alaska through our trips, we can help preserve this environment for future generations.
